Psalm 5
1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my sighing. 2 Listen to my cry for
help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. 3 In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests
before you and wait in expectation . . .
7 But I, by your great mercy, will come into your house; in reverence will I bow
down toward your holy temple. 8 Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies-- make straight your way
before me . . .
11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread
your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. 12 For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
Psalm 8
1 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your
glory above the heavens. 2 From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?
5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory
and honor. 6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: 7 all flocks
and herds, and the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of
the seas.
9 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Psalm 13
1 How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face
from me? 2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph
over me?
3 Look on me and answer, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in
death; 4 my enemy will say, "I have overcome him," and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. 6 I
will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
Psalm 16
1 Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge.
2 I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing."
3 As for the saints who are in the land, they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight. 4 The sorrows of
those will increase who run after other gods . . .
5 LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure.
6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.
7 I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.
8 I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure,
10 because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. 11 You have made known
to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down
in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for
his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with
me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head
with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in
the house of the LORD forever.
Psalm 29
1 Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 2
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.
3 The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD thunders
over the mighty waters. 4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic.
5 The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of
Lebanon . . . 7 The voice of the LORD strikes with flashes of lightning. 8 The voice of the LORD shakes the
desert . . .
9 The voice of the LORD twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in his temple
all cry, "Glory!" 10 The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD is enthroned as King forever. 11 The LORD
gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.
Psalm 33
1 Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise
him. 2 Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. 3 Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully, and shout for joy.
4 For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. 5
The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love.
6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath
of his mouth. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars ; he puts the deep into storehouses. 8 Let all the
earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and
it stood firm. 10 The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. 11 But the
plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.
13 From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; 14 from his dwelling place he watches all who live on
earth-- 15 he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. 16 No king is saved by the size
of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. 17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great
strength it cannot save. 18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing
love, 19 to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
20 We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. 21 In him
our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. 22 May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put
our hope in you.
Psalm 36
5 Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. 6
Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O LORD, you preserve both man and beast.
7 How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8 They
feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. 9 For with you is the fountain
of life; in your light we see light.
10 Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in
heart. 11 May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. 12 See how
the evildoers lie fallen-- thrown down, not able to rise!
Psalm 37
3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. 4 Delight
yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: 6 He will
make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed
in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes . . .
10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they
will not be found. 11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace . . .
16 Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked; 17
for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous. 18 The days of the blameless are
known to the LORD, and their inheritance will endure forever. 19 In times of disaster they will not wither; in days
of famine they will enjoy plenty . . .
23 If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm; 24 though
he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.
25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or
their children begging bread. 26 They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed . . .
28 For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They will
be protected forever . . . 29 the righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever.
30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just.
31 The law of his God is in his heart; his feet do not slip . . .
39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; he is their stronghold in
time of trouble. 40 The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because
they take refuge in him.
Psalm 39
4 "Show me, O LORD, my life's end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting
is my life. 5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man's life
is but a breath. Selah 6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps
up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
7 "But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you. 8 Save me from all
my transgressions; do not make me the scorn of fools. 9 I was silent; I would not open my mouth, for you are the one
who has done this. 10 Remove your scourge from me; I am overcome by the blow of your hand. 11 You rebuke and
discipline men for their sin; you consume their wealth like a moth-- each man is but a breath. Selah
12 "Hear my prayer, O LORD, listen to my cry for help; be not deaf to my weeping.
For I dwell with you as an alien, a stranger, as all my fathers were. 13 Look away from me, that I may rejoice again
before I depart and am no more."
Psalm 40
1 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. 2 He
lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. 3
He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.
4 Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud,
to those who turn aside to false gods. 5 Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned
for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.
6 Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but my ears you have pierced ; burnt
offerings and sin offerings you did not require. 7 Then I said, "Here I am, I have come-- it is written about me in
the scroll. 8 I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart."
9 I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, as you know,
O LORD. 10 I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and salvation. I do not conceal
your love and your truth from the great assembly.
11 Do not withhold your mercy from me, O LORD; may your love and your truth always
protect me. 12 For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more
than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me.
13 Be pleased, O LORD, to save me; O LORD, come quickly to help me. 14 May
all who seek to take my life be put to shame and confusion; may all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace. 15 May
those who say to me, "Aha! Aha!" be appalled at their own shame. 16 But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in
you; may those who love your salvation always say, "The LORD be exalted!"
17 Yet I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer;
O my God, do not delay.
Psalm 49
1 Hear this, all you peoples; listen, all who live in this world, 2 both low
and high, rich and poor alike: 3 My mouth will speak words of wisdom; the utterance from my heart will give understanding.
4 I will turn my ear to a proverb; with the harp I will expound my riddle:
5 Why should I fear when evil days come, when wicked deceivers surround me-- 6
those who trust in their wealth and boast of their great riches? 7 No man can redeem the life of another or give
to God a ransom for him-- 8 the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough-- 9 that he should live
on forever and not see decay.
10 For all can see that wise men die; the foolish and the senseless alike perish
and leave their wealth to others. 11 Their tombs will remain their houses forever, their dwellings for endless generations,
though they had named lands after themselves.
12 But man, despite his riches, does not endure; he is like the beasts that perish.
13 This is the fate of those who trust in themselves, and of their followers, who
approve their sayings. Selah 14 Like sheep they are destined for the grave, and death will feed on them. The upright
will rule over them in the morning; their forms will decay in the grave, far from their princely mansions. 15 But God
will redeem my life from the grave; he will surely take me to himself. Selah
Psalm 61
1 Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.
2 From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead
me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe.
4 I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
Selah 5 For you have heard my vows, O God; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.
6 Increase the days of the king's life, his years for many generations. 7 May
he be enthroned in God's presence forever; appoint your love and faithfulness to protect him.
8 Then will I ever sing praise to your name and fulfill my vows day after day.
Psalm 62
1 My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. 2 He alone
is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken . . .
5 Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. 6 He alone is
my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. 7 My salvation and my honor depend on God ; he is
my mighty rock, my refuge. 8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
Selah
9 Lowborn men are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie; if weighed on a balance,
they are nothing; together they are only a breath. 10 Do not trust in extortion or take pride in stolen goods; though
your riches increase, do not set your heart on them.
11 One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong,
12 and that you, O Lord, are loving. Surely you will reward each person according to what he has done.
Psalm 65
1 Praise awaits you, O God, in Zion; to you our vows will be fulfilled. 2 O
you who hear prayer, to you all men will come. 3 When we were overwhelmed by sins, you forgave our transgressions.
4 Blessed are those you choose and bring near to live in your courts! We are filled with the good things of your house,
of your holy temple.
5 You answer us with awesome deeds of righteousness, O God our Savior, the hope of
all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas, 6 who formed the mountains by your power, having armed yourself
with strength, 7 who stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations.
8 Those living far away fear your wonders; where morning dawns and evening fades you call forth songs of joy.
9 You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God
are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it. 10 You drench its furrows and
level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops. 11 You crown the year with your bounty, and your
carts overflow with abundance. 12 The grasslands of the desert overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness. 13
The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain; they shout for joy and sing.
Psalm 66
1 Shout with joy to God, all the earth! 2 Sing the glory of his name; make
his praise glorious! 3 Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before
you. 4 All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name." Selah
5 Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man's behalf! 6 He
turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot-- come, let us rejoice in him. 7 He rules forever
by his power, his eyes watch the nations-- let not the rebellious rise up against him. Selah
8 Praise our God, O peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard; 9 he has
preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping. 10 For you, O God, tested us; you refined us like silver. 11
You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs. 12 You let men ride over our heads; we went through fire
and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.
13 I will come to your temple with burnt offerings and fulfill my vows to you--
14 vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble . . . Selah
16 Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.
17 I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue. 18 If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord
would not have listened; 19 but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer. 20 Praise be to God, who
has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!
Psalms 67
1 May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us, Selah
2 that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.
3 May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. 4 May
the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth. Selah 5 May
the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you.
6 Then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us. 7 God
will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him.
Psalm 68
1 May God arise, may his enemies be scattered; may his foes flee before him. 2
As smoke is blown away by the wind, may you blow them away; as wax melts before the fire, may the wicked perish before
God. 3 But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful.
4 Sing to God, sing praise to his name, extol him who rides on the clouds -- his
name is the LORD-- and rejoice before him. 5 A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.
6 God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched
land.
7 When you went out before your people, O God, when you marched through the wasteland,
Selah 8 the earth shook, the heavens poured down rain, before God, the One of Sinai, before God, the God of Israel.
9 You gave abundant showers, O God; you refreshed your weary inheritance. 10 Your people settled in it, and from
your bounty, O God, you provided for the poor . . .
19 Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Selah
20 Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death . . .
28 Summon your power, O God ; show us your strength, O God, as you have done before
. . .32 Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth, sing praise to the Lord, Selah 33 to him who rides the ancient
skies above, who thunders with mighty voice. 34 Proclaim the power of God, whose majesty is over Israel, whose power
is in the skies. 35 You are awesome, O God, in your sanctuary; the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people.
Praise be to God!
