The Apostle Paul and Silas were
thrown in jail in the city of Philippi for preaching the gospel. At midnight they sang and prayed until God broke down all
the doors and broke the stocks which held their feet with a great earthquake. The poor jailer, frightened and convicted of
his sins, came to these two preachers and asked this question, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
They replied, "Believe
in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household." Acts
16:24-31 (NIV)
What must I do to be saved?
This is the most important question one can ask, for the answer one receives and accepts will make the difference between
being lost and eternally separated from God, or having fellowship with God and eternal life.
The Bible says in the twinkling of an eye Jesus is coming for His Church... Will you go back with us? Are you saved? Many believe there are many ways to salvation. Don’t believe that lie. The Bible makes it clear that all are sinners. James 2:10 says: "For whoever keeps the whole law (good deeds) and yet stumbles in
one point, he has become guilty of all”. So…
· Believing in God will not save
you.
· Obeying the Ten Commandments Church membership will not save you.
· Giving money to the church or
to the poor will not save you.
· Volunteering your time to charitable
activities will not save you.
· Living a moral life will not save
you.
· Water baptism will not save you.
· Changing your behavior will not
save you.
· Engaging in religious activities
will not save you.
· Observing certain days or other
rules and regulations will not save you or keep you saved.
· And please don’t think
because you are young you have time.
So as you can see no matter how
good you and those around you think you are, you are a sinner and if you have not accepted and believed in the sacrifice of
Jesus on the Cross for your sins when you die you are not going to heaven.
While this may sound grim, there is good news. God
loves us (John 3:16) and wants us to spend eternity with Him (2 Peter 3:9). But because God is also just and righteous, He
cannot allow our sin to go unpunished. Someone has to pay for it. In His great mercy and love, God provided His own payment
for our sin. He sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay the penalty for our sins by dying on the cross for us. Jesus’ death
was an infinite death because He is the infinite God/man, paying our infinite sin debt, so that we would not have to pay it
in hell for eternity (2 Corinthians 5:21).
If we confess our sin and place our faith in Christ,
asking for God’s forgiveness based on Christ’s sacrifice, we are saved, forgiven, cleansed, and promised an eternal
home in heaven. God loved us so much that He provided the means for our salvation, but if we reject His gift of eternal life,
we will face the eternal consequences of that decision.
Are you ready to receive Christ? If you are pray this simple
prayer from your heart. Prayer is talking to God. God knows your heart and is not so concerned with your words as He is with
the attitude of your heart. The following is a suggested prayer:
"Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I have sinned against God, rebelled
against you, and gone my own way. Forgive me of my sins. I believe in my heart that you are the risen Lord of all. I turn
my life over to you and ask that you be my Lord and my Savior. Take control of
the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be. Give me eternal life in you, as you have promised to
do for those who ask. Deliver me into the Father's presence, and send the Holy Spirit to live in me. Thank you. Amen.
